Kisumu county is rich in attractive sites that one can visit on their holidays or during a tour of the western side of Kenya. 

The county is endowed with natural prehistoric and adventurous view sites that include;

1. Rusinga Island

The island lies in the fresh waters of Lake Victoria. It is known for the the history of the early man as his earliest fossils were discovered there.

The remains of the early man have been preserved in this island making it one of the best prehistoric sites to visit.

2. Luanda Magere 

Luanda Magere was a traditional Luo warrior who had his strength in his shadow.

He fought for the Luo community against the Kalenjin in the ancient days.

Unfortunately, he was killed by the Kalenjin warriors who discovered that he had powers in his shadow.

After Magere's death, his body turned into stone which was preserved at Muhoroni District along River Nyando. 

3. Kit Mikayi

Kit Mikayi meaning 'Stone of the first wife' is a historic site located in Kisumu County along the Kisumu-Bondo highway.

The site is made up of stones that are systematically arranged making it a darling for many.

 The famous Kit Mikayi is one of the major places in Kisumu where you can't miss to visit. 

4. Kisumu Impala sanctuary

The sanctuary is among the top listed places to visit in the region for happy and adventurous encounters.

It was created to provide refuge for the endangered Impala in the region.

It also provides grazing grounds for hippos from the lake.
