Kenya's development is highly dependent on the national government and not so much on the people. Here are the major causes of underdevelopment in the country;

1. Poor leadership

Leaders are in power but only a few are constructive since they have failed to build their constituents economically only engaging in corruption. The economic development of the country starts from the people at the grassroots levels and these people are to be empowered by leaders on the ground. The failure by these leaders to support their subjects on the ground is a major reason for the country's underdevelopment.

2. Poor industrialization

Industrialization is the major core of every nation. A well industrialised nation scores high economically. Kenya's industrialization is still at a critical end as we import almost all products from overseas. Importation of the most basic products is an indication of underdevelopment. The national government should therefore put forward plans to network the country with more industries that will lower the imports and the import rates.

3. Unemployment

Unemployment in the country is at its worst. Thousands of youths are jobless despite attaining job requirements. This is because the national government has failed to dig into ways of providing more employment opportunities for its people. Economic develop of Kenya depends hugely on taxes and since large number of Kenyans are unemployed, the tax collection is low. High taxes are only imposed on the employed individuals and the few companies in the country to maintain its economy.

4. Inaccessibility to higher learning by many

A good number of Kenyans are not able to access higher learning mainly due to lack of finances and this is a major drawback for the development of the country as these people fail to secure taxable jobs to contribute to the country's economic development.
