This is after one of the gang members was allegedly caught stealing a mobile phone at Progressive in Githurai 45.

After the beating by angry residents, the suspect was forced to identify his fellow gang members residing in Kahawa Wendani.

The suspect pin pointed three of his gang members from their well-off homes who were then thoroughly beaten by the progressive residents being helped by some occupants of Kahawa Wendani.

The pleas from their parents fell on deaf ears as the residents claimed that the teenagers were habitual thieves who had terrorised them for a while.

Enraged, the mob threatened to set the teenagers ablaze but they were saved by the village elder who called the area chief and her administration police for assistance.

Christine Makimei, the chief, condemned the action by the residents stating that it was against the law.

She explained that such suspects should be handed over to the police or security authorities and not for the residents to take law into their own hands.

Makimei revealed that such cases of insecurity had been reported before by area residents and investigations were underway to bring the culprits to book.

The chief took the suspects to her station where further investigations were to be carried out in regard to the allegations.

She cautioned parents to be aware of their children’s activities to avoid their engaging in criminal activities.
