One of the most popular techniques a number of men who do not want to use condoms and pills have adopted is withdrawal.

However, it is important to understand whether the method works or not before applying the same.

Here are 4 things you should know before trying the withdrawal technique during sex.

1. It is not 100% efficient: Withdrawal is commonly used to avoid unwanted pregnancies but it is not perfect.  Most men withdraw after some sperm has already escaped into the vagina. It only takes one sperm to impregnate a woman.

2. Doesn’t prevent STDs: There are various ways you can avoid STDs but withdrawal is not among them. There is the exchange of fluids during sex when you apply this technique hence you are not safe. Use condoms or avoid sex if you want to be safe.

3. It can be a painful experience: It is normal to experience pain during this moment. Holding an ejaculation so as to withdraw can be painful due to the blocked urethra.

4. It does not reduce sexual pleasure: Most people think that withdrawing reduces the pleasure one experiences during sex, which is not the case. Even if you pull out during the act, you will still feel the same pleasure at the end of the day.
