The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has fired more than 400 traffic police officers.
NPSC chairman Johnston Kavuludi said the officers failed to pass the financial probity test during the vetting exercise.
"We finished decision making on Thursday last week. Those to be removed and retained have been informed” said Kavuludi in Eldoret town before commencing the vetting of Chief Inspectors in the region.
The NPSC chairman who had earlier paid a courtesy all to Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago noted that the Traffic department has been on the spot as it has been affected by graft.
"The traffic officers were put through a vigorous exercise. Some of them gave contradicting explanations during the process while other ignored some details which were later found out," he said.
Among those who were fired included older officers who were put on retirement. However, Kavuludi promised to pay the older officer their retirement dues.
He further noted that no officer will be promoted or given retirement dues without producing a vetting clearance certificate. This was a move aimed at getting those officers who avoided the vetting process.
