Bar proprietors in Kisumu County and neighboring counties now have a reason to smile after the East African Breweries Limited (EABL) disclosed that it’s senator keg plant in Kisumu will need at least 4, 000 new bars.
The new bars plus the ones already in existence will enable the Sh15 billion plant in Kisumu to operate at optimal capacity, once it officially starts operations.
The information was disclosed by EABL managing director Mr. Andrew Cowan, during a recent meeting with analysts.
“It’s an enormous project, which as you can imagine we’ve got very well resourced, which is why typically these things take a couple of years,” the Director was quoted by Business Daily Africa.
“Kisumu is a great location for us. It’s near the lake and you need water to make beer. There’s a rich employment based there. In the long-term, we thought well beyond Senator before choosing that location. We chose Kisumu to give us flexibility,” added the Director.
The brewery plant which is under construction in Kisumu is expected to be opened around mid next year.
It will directly employ 100 people, apart from the 30, 000 sorghum farmers that will be contracted by EABL.
