Property owners in Diani, Kwale County are in panic after the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) revealed its plans to bring down some properties on the flights' path.
The authority, on Wednesday, said that the properties on the flight paths are dangerous, adding that there is the need to demolish them.
Security officials and experts have embarked on negotiations on determining whether they will ask the owners to demolish the property or not. The buildings are considered not only risk to the aircrafts using the path but also local residents of the area.
Confirming the plan to demolish the buildings, Kwale county commissioner Karuko Ngumo said that the talks are in an advanced stage. He also said that different stakeholders are being incorporated into the talks before the final decision is made.
"We are on discussions, the negotiations have brought all the stakeholders on the table before we ponder next move," the county security chairman told the standard.
The owners are likely to lose property worth millions if the new move is implemented as planned. KAA also confirmed that it had written a letter to the county government of Mombasa on March 13, informing it of the plans to demolish the property.
