The fate of the first-term governor hangs in balance after the court blocked him from accessing his office over the alleged embezzlement of Sh.357 million belonging to the county government of Nairobi.

The DCI now suspects fraudulent deals in relation to the payment the county government of Nairobi made towards Pumwani Maternity Hospital’s refurbishment,  AAR Insurance Kenya, Casual labourers, and Noveta Ltd. The detectives are now scrutinizing payments made in these deals as efforts to recover the missing millions continue.

In a letter seen by the media, DCI investigating officer John Kariuki alluded that the county government is likely to have made the payments somewhere between 2017 and 2019.

“The county government may have fraudulently made the payments between 2017 and 2019,” Kariuki said.

The detectives have demanded that the county government officials involved in making the payments should record statements in connection with the connection.

In a letter, which was addressed to County Secretary Simon Leboo ole Morintat, the DCI has asked the officials of the county to furnish it with records of all financial transactions to ascertain whether there are any fishy deals on the ground.
