In a post on her Facebook page on Tuesday, Ngilu observed that the victims didn't deserve to die in such a heart-wrenching manner and someone should be held accountable.

She blamed the deaths on incompetence and negligence of the KFS.

‪"I am heartbroken and saddened by the death of Ms. Marina and daughter Amanda and by hearth wrenching manner in which they lost their dear lives in hands of utter incompetence and sheer negligence at the ferry in Mombasa," wrote Ngilu.

She noted that measures and caution should be taken to ensure the accident doesn't happen again.

"The leadership of Kenya Ferry Services must explain to the country what really happened and why? Responsibility must be taken and this should never be allowed to happen in our country ever again," the county boss insisted.

Marriam Mugenda and her four-year-old daughter are among four people who drowned on Sunday evening after their car slid off from the rear of MV Harambee just before it docked on the island side.

The search for the bodies is expected to resume Tuesday.
