A freak accident on Monday afternoon along Mombasa-Malindi road left six people dead.
A police report, according to the Star, has confirmed the accident which involved a matatu that collided with a bus at Mida forest, about 2km from Kilifi town, claimed the lives of six people.
The matatu was moving from Mombasa City towards Malindi when it collided head-on with a bus that was heading in the opposite direction.
Matatu driver and five of his passengers died on the spot while others sustained serious injuries.
Those in the bus, fortunately, escaped death.
Malindi base commander said those who sustained various injuries had been taken to the Malindi Sub-county Hospital.
The deceased bodies were also taken to the same hospital's mortuary.
"The bodies have been taken to Malindi hospital mortuary. We cannot know the number of those injured immediately as some were taken by well-wishers to different hospitals," he said as quoted by the Star.
The bus driver, Ali Sharif Hussein, who only sustained minor injuries blamed the matatu driver for the accident.
He alleged that the matatu driver was using a wrong lane and even warned him by flashing headlights but the warning bore no fruits.
"I flashed my headlights to warn him but he didn't move," he said.
