Deputy President William Ruto has now changed his tune on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Thursday at his Karen Home, Ruto said that he is not sure whether the BBI rallies are being funded by the government. The second in command said that he was initially opposed to the rallies but he cannot ascertain the claims he made.
" I am not sure whether public money is being used or not," he said.
Ruto has been on record faulting the rivals for attending BBI rallies. He alluded that the funds these leaders are using can be used elsewhere.
"When did this change to leaders organising political mobilisation forums so as to read the report for the people?"This is a new twist. No one is opposed to the BBI. Why this campaign and what is it about? Is it aimed at misusing public funds?" he posed during a tour in Vihiga County.
Ruto has also been claiming that the rivals are using the rallies as platforms to insult him ahead of 2022. He has, however, supported his troops' decision to attend the BBI rallies. Led by Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the leaders have also said that they will not engage in sideshows during these rallies.
