The Health Ministry has announced the closure of 811 clinics across the country over failure to comply with the required standards.
The clinics' closure comes after a joint inspection with regulatory bodies.
An Aga Khan medical centre located on Thika Road is among the clinics to be shut down after it failed to comply with the requirements of the ministry as outlined in Sections 25(1) of the Health Act.
The Ministry released a circular on Thursday, warning of the closure. The hospital was put on the spot over the medical and dialysis centre at Jewel Complex in Roysambu.
“The attached list of facilities did not meet the minimum standards for licensure and were therefore ordered to be closed until such a time that they comply with the minimum standards and apply to the relevant regulatory bodies for re-inspection,” the document read as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The dialysis centre had only been in operation for six months before the announcement of the closure. The centre has been reported to lack health infrastructure as well as health personnel to support its operations as required by the ministry.
The hospital Chief Executive Officer Mr Shawn Bolouki said that the closure of the facility is an unfortunate incident since it happens to be the only facility where patients can get renal dialysis.
The circular indicates that out of the 811 health centres set to be closed, 107 are located in Nairobi. The centres include Shalom Medical Centre, Family Hospital, Alliance Hospital, Airport Medical Services and Mariakani Cottage Hospital in Utawala.
