Kenyan social media users have expressed mixed reactions after Jubilee Party candidate MacDonald Mariga conceded defeat in the Kibra by-election.
Mariga called ODM's counterpart Imran Okoth to congratulate him for taking an early lead in the by-election.
A section of the Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) seemed to have been impressed by Mariga's move of accepting defeat.
They lauded him and claimed that such non-violent politics is what Kenya needs. They further urged other leaders and politicians to emulate Mariga in future elections and accept defeat peacefully.
Another group though criticized Mariga for throwing in the towel at such an early stage of the election.
At the time Mariga conceded defeat, he had 1602 while his rival Imran Okoth had 4,051 votes from 32 of the 183 polling stations.
The Kibra by-election was announced after the death of Ken Okoth who was the area Member of Parliament. He succumbed to cancer.
