Speaking during the event, the legislator encouraged the locals to find time and read the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report to understand it better before rejecting or throwing their weight behind it.

"I want to ask every one of you to find the time and read the BBI report which was released a few days ago. We should not be left behind because we are part of Kenyans who should have a say on matters leadership of this country," said Tong'i.

The Jubilee lawmaker insisted that he cannot force residents to back the BBI report if they will feel it is not what they want.

He said he was elected to serve the people of Nyaribari Chache irrespective of how they voted during the 2017 polls.

"I will not force anyone to support the BBI. Once we all read the report and know the content the document contains, we will be able to know whether to back it or not," he said.

Tong'i, however, lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for putting the interests of Kenyans first by ensuring there is peace, unity and harmony in the country following last year's historic handshake.
