Mt Kenya region has struggled to speak in one voice over President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession battle, with a number of politicians challenging Dr Ruto.

The DP supported Uhuru twice, but the president seems to have slowed down in the quest to have Dr Ruto taking over in 2022.

At a function in Laikipia, Waruguru insisted that the constitution will not be changed until Dr Ruto is elected as President of the republic of Kenya.

"There will be no constitutional changes not today, not in the near future. We cannot change just because some people wants us to," she said.

"That can only happen after wev have paid DP William Ruto the debt. We owe him. He's one of our own and we cannot afford to embarrass him."

Two separate groups have emerged in Central Kenya and allied regions. One group supports President Uhuru's handshake with Raila while the other one supports DP William Ruto.

Agriculture minister Mwangi Kiunjuri seemed to also to support Dr Ruto, insisting that Mt Kenya people will not support referendum without scrutinizing recommendations.

"We are ready to do what's clear as a community. We shall handle all challenges. We are ready to listen to anything that is brought to us before we jump to conclusions."
