Bernard Ngugi is the new managing director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Kenya Power.
The announcement was made by the Kenya Power Board of Directors in a tweet on Tuesday.
Ngugi, who is the former General Manager in charge of Supply Chain at the company, will be taking over from Eng Jared Othieno.
''The Board of Directors has appointed Mr Bernard Ngugi, formerly the General Manager, Supply Chain, as the Managing Director and CEO of the Company with effect from 28th October 2019 following a competitive recruitment process,'' wrote Kenya Power.
Othieno has been the interim managing director and CEO since July 2018 after the ouster of Ken Tarus over graft allegations.
Ngugi affirmed his readiness in taking the company to greater heights after being appointed the new CEO.
“My immediate focus is to lead the company towards improved profitability while ensuring the business fulfils its socio-economic purpose. This will be achieved by implementing our 5-year Strategic Plan that broadly aims at delivering excellent customer service and ensuring our business sustainability,” Ngugi said as quoted by the Standard.
He further appreciated the interim management for making sure the company remains stable even after the ouster of the former management.
Kenya Power Chairman Amb (Eng) Mahboub Maalim expressed confidence in Ngugi, noting that he will implement the strategies aimed at strengthening the company.
“We believe that Mr Ngugi will see the company through an important stage of its development and growth as we work to diligently implement all our plans to strengthen the company and the commercial aspects of our business,” said Maalim.
