Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has been blasted for allegedly engaging in doublespeak on the referendum debate.
According to Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi, the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator has been inconsistent on his stand on the proposed law changes.
Speaking on Wednesday, Osotsi questioned Murkomen's Monday remarks that there will be no referendum this year, only weeks after they declared their readiness to support changes.
Citing recent promise by allies of Deputy President William Ruto to accept the changes, and any method used to achieve them, he questioned Murkomen's opposition to referendum.
"It's shocking when we hear people like Murkomen ruling out a referendum this year yet only a few weeks ago they said they are ready. Let people speak the truth (Tukisikia watu kama Murkomen wakisema hakuna referendum mwaka huu wakati wiki chache tu zilizopita walisema wako tayari kwa mabadiliko tunashangaa. Watu waseme ukweli)," he said on Radio Citizen's Pata Shika on Wednesday night.
He also stated that the remarks that have been coming from Murkomen and his colleagues allied to the Deputy President lately are a clear indication that they are not for the proposed changes.
According to him, the group has been blowing hot and cold on the issue, basing his judgement on the group's opposition to the BBI regional discussion forums set to begin on Friday.
"These people are in support at daytime and in opposition at night. They have now began opposing the BBI forums (Hawa mchana wanaunga na usiku wanapinga. Sasa wameanza kupinga mikutano ya BBI)," he added.
The opposition began immediately after President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga proposed that the BBI report heads back to Kenyans before implementation.
