Deputy President William Ruto has said that he is very proud to be President Uhuru Kenyatta’s deputy.
Speaking during the burial of former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth Mama Rahab Wambui, in Gatanga, Murang’a County on Thursday, Ruto heaped praised on President Kenyatta development and unity agenda.
He said that Kenyans have confidence in President Kenyatta’s leadership capabilities.
Leaders who spoke before me have proof that you are working, from roads to electricity and water. This shows your leadership is transforming Kenya (Viongozi waliozungumza hapa kutoka mjumbe, mama county na senator wa hapa wameeleza juu ya kazi uliofanya kwa serikali ya Jubilee.. ya bara bara, stima na maji ni kumaanisha kuwa kutoka uongozi wako, Kenya inabadilika), Ruto stated.
"We are all confident that the transformation you promised is well underway,” he added urging Kenyans and elected leaders to stand by the president as he implements development agenda.
Ruto vowed to work with the president in uniting the country stating that unity was the key agenda for the Jubilee administration when it took power in 2013.
"(We stand firmly by you in ensuring Kenya leaves behind tribal politics marked by hatred (Tutasimama kidete na wewe kuhakikisha Kenya inawacha siasa ya ukabila, chuki, ugomvi na fitina)," the Deputy President assured.
Ruto's statement comes as the 2022 succession politics takes centre stage. The former Eldoret North MP is banking on President Uhuru Kenyatta to endorse his 2022 presidential bid.
Ruto’s 2022 bid has seen a split in the ruling Jubilee party leading to the formation of team Tanga Tanga and Team Kieleweke.
Team Tanga Tanga is banking Ruto’s 2022 bid while team Kieleweke is against his presidential bid.
