Former Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale has claimed that MCAs and Senators would support 'Punguza Mizigo' initiative, while the National Assembly would reject it.
However, Khalwale asserted that Kenyans would make the final decision on the issue.
Posting the sentiments in his official Twitter handle, the former MP noted that he had carefully read the referendum proposal by the Third Way Alliance and had made four observations on what would happen to it.
"Keen reading of the Punguza Mizigo proposals reveals the following
1. County Assemblies will easily approve it.
2. The Senate will gleefully endorse it.
3. National Assembly will angrily reject the proposed amendments.
4. The final say will rest with Wananchi," read's Khalwale's tweet.
Third Way Alliance has come up with their own constitutional amendment proposal that aims at scrapping the post of Women Representatives and reduce the number of MPs.
It further proposes a one-term 7-year presidency among other contemplated changes.
"WHY #PunguzaMizigoBill2019: DEMYSTIFY THE PRESIDENCY & END A CULTURE OF ELECTORAL VIOLENCE ASSOCIATED WITH POWER OF INCUMBENCY- Introduce a one 7-year term presidency," reads a Facebook post by the Ekuru Aukot-led party.
The IEBC has approved one million signatures collected by the party to support their referendum push which is now set to be sent to the County Assemblies for debate and either approval or rejection.
