In a press conference on Tuesday, Murkomen, who was accompanied by other allies of Deputy President William Ruto, announced they will join the BBI meetings, but won't allow taxpayers money to be used unless passed through legislation.

"We are opposed to the use of public funds in the organized BBI rallies unless appropriated by Parliament or county assemblies. Our participation and organization of BBI rallies shall be through personal contributions," the Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator said.

Reacting to the sentiments, Magaya denied the allegations, saying they have been holding many rallies without being sponsored by taxpayers funds.

"This is plain stupid. We have done hundreds and thousands of rallies in this country without using state funds. Let Tanga bollos look for a better excuse," he tweeted.

Similar remarks were echoed by Narok Senator Ledama Olekina, who dismissed claims that BBI rallies in Kisii and Kakamega counties were funded by State.

"I love the way people have figures in their fingertips. It’s as if they were part of the accounting staff! BBI rallies and ODM rallies are never paid for! Kenyans attend them willingly! We are focused on ensuring all Kenyans are included in the next Government not a few rich guys!" Ledama said while responding to lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi who claimed Sh150 million was spent in the rallies.
