Deputy President William Ruto now wants Jubilee Party elected leaders to give referendum talk a wide berth.
He claimed the debate to amend the constitution was a strategy being used by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga to make Jubilee leaders lose focus and fail in fulfilling their election pledges.
"Jubilee MPs should not allow themselves to be drawn into Constitution debate by Odinga. What is important this time is to initiate development projects which can benefit Kenyans," Ruto said.
Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Sunday, the DP asked the opposition to give the Jubilee administration time and space to continue with its reforms agenda without distraction.
"We shall not be discouraged by negative talks by our opponents, we shall work hard to transform the lives of all Kenyans," he stated.
Ruto said Kenyans were not interested in the referendum debate, adding the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team should take views from Raila since it was only him who appeared to have a problem with the current constitution.
"The BBI Task Force is going round the country collecting views from Kenyans who are not interested in changing laws. Kenyans want water, good roads and electricity and the BBI is wasting its time. Members of BBI should tell Mr Odinga to drop his mission," he remarked.
He spoke at Upper Baricho Primary School during a funds drive in aid of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Ndia Constituency.
