Speaking on Tuesday morning as he introduced the Daily Brief show, the presenter said that lying to census officials is a contravention of the Statistical Act that obligates Kenyans to give true information about themselves.

"But also it's good to note that thou shall not lie to the enumerators because it is actually criminal for you to do that. There is a piece of legislation called the Statistics Act of 2004 and within that particular provision you are not supposed to give information that is not authentic when it comes to this particular exercise so kindly let's so comply, " Samuel Njoroge said

Violations of the Statistics Act could form the basis of charges that include endangering a national process which could attract a fine or even a jail term depending on the scale of the violations.

Preventing census officials from conducting their work is also a violation punishable by law.

The decennial headcount kicked off on Saturday at 6 p.m with the government urging Kenyans to provide truthful information. Social media has been filled with memes of people providing untruthful information to census officials.

An emphasis has been placed on the truthfulness of the information provided as it will form the basis of the plans that the government will undertake for the next 10 years before another headcount is conducted.
