Speaking to residents on the campaign trail on Friday, the outspoken legislator expressed confidence that the Raila Odinga-led party would triumph in the mini-poll.

"I don't want to retire from politics but if Imran fails to capture this seat, I will go home (Mimi bado sitaki kuretire kwa siasa lakini Imran asipopata hii kiti mimi naenda nyumbani)," he said

Whether he will be forced to make good on his vow remains to be seen as the by-election is over a month away.

Kibra constituency is an ODM turf and members of the party have been campaigning to ensure that it recaptures the seat.

Imran Okoth was declared the victor in the ODM nomination exercise about two weeks ago, beating nine other aspirants with over 4,000 votes.

He will face candidates fronted by other parties.

The governing Jubilee party fielded former football star McDonald Mariga with Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford-Kenya fielding Eliud Owalo and Ramadhan Butichi respectively.

Speaker Justin Muturi declared the Kibra Constituency seat vacant after the death of late former MP Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer.
