In the last one year, Dr Ruto has visited Nakuru County a couple of times, despite the region having voted for his Jubilee Party overwhelmingly in 2017.

Senator Susan Kihika and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri have stood out to be his lieutenants in the county which has close to 500,000 voters.

However, Mr Odinga is keen to revamp his ODM party and chose the Alps Hotel in Nakuru as the serene environment for the National Executive Council.

"Party SG @edwinsifuna briefing @citizentvkenya on the objectives of the two-day retreat for the party NEC at the Alps Hotel in Nakuru. Party Leader @RailaOdinga is among those in attendance," ODM party tweeted.

The meeting will see the party discussing recommendations on improving party nominations and elections. A Task Force report was submitted for NEC review in May.

Also, the team shall discuss recommendations to BBI, with the parliamentary system of government likely to dominate. ODM is keen to have the presidential system changed.

"The objectives for the two-day retreat for the party NEC are;1. Review of the recommendations of the Catherine Mumma Taskforce report on party nominations/elections. Party Proposals to the BBI team on legal and constitutional changes to give effect to the handshake MOU," the party added.

Raila, who is expected to rival William Ruto in 2022, is yet to comment on the assassination saga. The DP claimed on Monday that four cabinet secretaries from Mt Kenya are after his life.
