Former Senator Paul Njoroge has weighed in on the proposed governance structure changes that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) envisages.
Speaking during a conference at the Intercontinental Hotel on Sunday, the former legislator threw his weight behind President Uhuru Kenyatta running for office in 2022 for the executive prime minister position and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga as president.
"Consequently, it should be noted that it has been very difficult to keep his expectations and that of Kenyans with regards to his promises on the four pillars of the government agenda due to too much 2022 politics by the deputy President who is meant to be a principal assistant," Njoroge said as quoted by the Star Newspaper.
The ex-senator's words come in the backdrop of a raging debate on whether President Uhuru Kenyatta should be allowed to run again in 2022 after the expiry of his two terms in 2022.
Unless constitutional changes are made, President Kenyatta is expected to hand over the instruments of power in 2022.
Among the most vocal supporters for the idea of Kenyatta not retiring from politics is the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, who said that the president is too young to retire in 2022.
