Kenyans have come out in large numbers to react after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dispute Resolution Tribunal cleared Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga.
Mariga had been disqualified last week by IEBC over missing details in the voters 2017 voters register. He appealed the verdict and appeared before the tribunal last week on Friday.
On Monday, the IEBC tribunal, headed by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati cleared Mariga to run for the much awaited Kibra parliamentary byelections.
"Mariga had sought the intervention of the Dispute Resolution Committee as he claimed to have registered as a voter and therefore qualified to run in the by-election #byelections2019," said IEBC.
After listening to his appeal, the came up with a decision.
"The IEBC Dispute Resolution Committee has reversed the verdict of the Kibra Returning Officer and has allowed Mr. Mariga to run in the Kibra MNA by election on 7th November, 2019," added the IEBC.
The IEBC further pointed out that his name will be on the ballot.
"Mr.Mariga will subsequently be included in the list of candidates running for the Kibra by election," added IEBC.
Following IEBC tribunal's ruling, Kenyans expressed varied views as Mariga readies to go back to the ring.
