Education cabinet secretary Prof George Magoha released Kenya certificate of primary education results of 2019 candidates.
Speaking at Kenya national examination council headquarters Magoha stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised to sponsor 9000 best-performed candidates with 30 percent of the scholarship going to slum pupils.
“The President has directed that part of those [9,000] scholarships must go to the slums of the inner cities,” he said as quoted by standard
These scholarships will be available every year for the best candidates.
According to the Education Cabinet Secretary, only 9770 pupils managed to score above 400 marks which indicates a negative deviation compared to last year's performance.
The Cabinet Secretary also noted that Vihiga, Kakamega, Nakuru and Nairobi counties recorded the highest number of candidates this year.
Andy Michael Munyiri is the top candidate scoring 440 marks from Thoghoto, in Kiambu county.
Flavian Onyango,June cheptoo and Sean Micheal came second tying with 439 marks.
The exam started on 29th October and was completed on October 31 with 1,088,986 candidates compared to last year of 1,082,364.
The CS also insisted that form one selection and placement will be completed before 2nd December.
