The sun has several positive effects on our overall health. Sunshine should be enjoyed moderately to enjoy its health benefits. Too much sun could expose your health to some risks.
Here are 3 harmful benefits of the sun;
1. Heatstroke
Heatstroke is caused by heat exhaustion which is the body's response to excessive loss of water and salt. Heatstroke is more serious and life-threatening. It causes the body's temperature to rise quickly to extreme levels within a short period. It can cause death or permanent disability.
Symptoms include loss of consciousness(coma), hot dry skin or profuse sweating, confusion and seizures.
2. Skin cancer
Exposing your skin to too much scorching sun or rather long-term exposure to the sun could cause you skin cancer. Sun damage to the skin develops over years and this means older people are likely to develop skin cancer depending on how long they've exposed their skins to direct heat from the sun. Some of the common types of skin cancer associated with the sun include basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma.
3. Sunburn
Sunburn can develop a few hours following excessive exposure to the sun. It results in symptoms such as redness, tenderness, blisters, feeling of tightness which causes discomfort and the skin might appear peeling. Another symptom that appears sometimes is fever. Sunburns on skin can be serious and require medical attention.
