Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has weighed in on the recently released census results, which listed Tharaka Nithi county among the least populated.

In the data released by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Director Zachary Mwangi on Monday, the county was listed as having slightly over 390, 000 people.

And while area leaders led by Governor Muthomi Njuki have contested the numbers, Wanyonyi now says that the county appears to have been busted after years of cheating.

He based this on the impressive votes the region has been giving during presidential elections, mostly against his party leader Raila Odinga, saying that the truth is finally out.

"Tharaka Nithi has a specific characteristic, they normally do the filling up during elections, but it has now been found out that there are no people (Tharaka Nithi wako na sifa fulani, wakati wa uchaguzi wao ndio wanajazilia. Lakini sasa imejulikana hakuna watu)," said the lawmaker.

He made the remarks on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi programme on Wednesday night, where he also raised questions about the numbers in Kiambu county.

While Kiambu was listed as the second most populated in Kenya, Wanyonyi argues that since the county is an extension of Nairobi, there could have been some confusion in the numbers.

He demanded that a breakdown of the numbers be issued, saying that it is very likely that some city residents were counted on the Kiambu side.

"Kiambu is an extension of Nairobi so let them provide a breakdown and explain who exactly was counted (Kiambu is an extension of Nairobi county kwa hivyo tunataka breakdown watuambie ni nani hawa walihesabiwa)," he added.
