National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has threatened to sue Daily Nation over an expose linking him to a multi-billion tender scandal.
This is after the local daily on Thursday published a story claiming Duale was the owner of Concordia Building and Civil Engineering Company that has won government tenders worth Sh2.6 billion in the last ten years.
Duale termed the report as damaging and threatened to sue the paper should it refuse to withdraw the story and apologize to him within a week.
"Following the highly damaging yet patently false headline published against me on the Daily Nation, I have instructed my lawyers to serve them with a demand letter for the withdrawal of the article and for the newspaper to publish a similarly prominent apology to me within 7 days," tweeted the Garissa Township MP.
A statement from his lawyers, Mahmoud and Gitau Advocates, said for Daily Nation to allege Duale was doing business with the government it was creating a perception that he is 'immoral and corrupt and was guilty of procurement malpractice and as such brings dishonour to the office he holds'.
"The publications complained of are highly fake, negligently authored and actuated by a malicious desire to injure our client's (Duale) reputation and standing in the society," read part of the statement.
The Majority Leader said the story, which carried the byline of Vincent Achuka, was defamatory and claimed it was sponsored by his political detractors.
"I support truthful and impartial journalism, but what the Daily Nation did was nothing but a hatchet job on behalf of my political detractors. I won't allow it today, or ever," Duale reiterated.
