Speaking in an interview with NTV on Saturday, Kundu appeared to suggest that whether she continues playing for the national team will depend on money.

Her strong words came as a response to interviewer Yoshua Makori's question, on whether she would continue playing women's soccer or she bail out in favour of another sport

"It depends on this (signalling money)... If its in volleyball, then I will go where money is (Inadepend na hii sasa.. Kama iko kwa voliboli, sinitafute penye doo iko), " the Harambee Starlets goalkeeper said.

She revealed that her parents used to play soccer but one of them stopped playing the sport and joined volleyball.

Her statement comes amid claims that the Starlets have been receiving meagre and untimely financial support from the Ministry of Sports.

The team's 2020 Tokyo, Japan Olympic qualifiers camp was nearly called off over lack of enough money.

It is only after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed intervened with a cash injection that the camp was reconvened.

Women's football is not as popular as the men's game, and has struggled over the years to attract sponsorship.
