A story is told about former Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa, a man who despite being well educated and a history maker, left the world a rather poor man.
Actually, by the time of his death after years as the deputy head of state and more as the Saboti MP, the lawyer had less than what an average politician would have.
Among the property he left behind included a Range Rover, a Mercedes Benz, 20 herds of cattle, an account at the Standard Chartered Bank and 300 acres of land in Kitale.
He also had 45 acres of land in Trans Nzoia county valued at Sh4.5 million, at a time when people of his caliber were basking in estates worth billions.
But also attributed to him was his remarkable generosity, to an extent that when he entered a pub with Sh50,000 he would leave empty handed after spending it on people.
This was not fully spent on liquor, but also shared with people in need of fees and other needs, including hospital bills and food, before his death in 2003.
Actually, by the time he was being picked by President Mwai Kibaki he was living in a rented quarters, and also died before competing to pay for his house in the posh Karen Estate.
But this was not the case back in the days, when he was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, when he basked in fine liquor, fine suits, fast cars and of course, women.
