EALA MP Simon Mbugua was on Tuesday summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations summoned to record a statement over the alleged plan to cause chaos during the hearing of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s graft case.
The MP was summoned alongside Sonko's chief of staff Peter Mugo to shed more light on the allegations levelled against them.
The duo was questioned and grilled for hours before allowed to leave the DCI headquarters as the probe into the matter gains momentum.
Sonko, who is accused of conspiring with other officials from the county government to defraud the county Sh357 million, appeared before anti-corruption chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti on Monday where he denied the charges.
The governor was on Tuesday rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after he reportedly fell ill. The governor is also facing assault charges after he engaged in an altercation with police during his arrest on his way to Voi.
The governor’s legal team comprises lawyers Cecil Miller, Nelson Havi, MP Makueni Dan Maanzo, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, and Alphonse Mutinda.
Others are George Kithi, Harrison Kinyanjui, and Osundwa Michael.
Sonko has maintained that he is innocent. He has asked his supports to remain calm during this period.
"I wish to call upon ALL my loyal supporters and well-wishers to remain calm and stay at home or go to their usual places of work from tomorrow (Monday), as I get processed to appear before a court of law," noted Sonko.
