He said Matiang'i's latest actions, including his clash with Deputy President William Ruto should not be taken lightly, as he is most likely challenging him and all the others to a race.

Manyora told the Star on Monday that having outshone his colleagues in the Cabinet, Matiang'i, also nicknamed the 'Super CS', feels that he is now ripe for a bigger position.

Manyora observes that Matiang'i has a point, and stands a good chance of making it to the top, judging by his good job in the Cabinet.

"Matiang'i comes out as a serious presidential candidate from his demeanour and the forceful way he has been doing his work. He has outshone his colleagues and is definitely telling the big boys, 'Bring it on and I will win the presidency',” he said.

He noted that an additional support from President Uhuru Kenyatta, two of the leading political figures in the country, would stand a very good chance of winning the seat.

The university don said Matiang'i's win would not be unique, as many hard working ministers in the world have ended up being Heads of States.

“On his own, Matiang'i may not have the muscle because he is a newcomer in this game. But if he is propped up by Uhuru or Raila, then he comes out as a strong candidate…All over the world, ministers who have outshone their Cabinet colleagues have come out to be presidents or prime ministers," he added.

A section of politicians from the Gusii region have also endorsed the CS for a gubernatorial seat, though he remains silent on his 2022 plans.
