Bobembe villagers in Nyamira South Sub County have been left in shock after a swarm of bees, killing a 5-year-old baby.
According to the father of the deceased who is also nursing injuries, the accident happened when he was pruning flowers at his home.
“I was scared and ran to the house only for them to follow me and they were full in the house. My son was with his mother when he was attacked," Omboga said.
According to Erick Ocharo, an eyewitness, efforts to rescue the child were futile since he was inside the house and the bees were attacking anyone who tried to get closer.
Other residents who had rushed to offer help were also attacked by the bees, forcing them to escape for their safety.
Confirming the incident area Chief Julius Ong’ondi said when the bees got calm, the child was rushed to a nearby clinic and later on referred to Nyamira Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“It’s a sad ordeal and we call upon the locals to stop spreading rumors as the nurses confirmed that the child died out of the pain of bee stings," said Ongo’ndi.
