Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has stated that Deputy president William Ruto might not Jubilee's automatic flag bearer in 2022 presidential elections.
According to the senator, candidates seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 will have to showcase their track record before Kenyans make a decision.
Speaking during a church service in Karen, Nairobi on Sunday, Murkomen argued that God would provide the country with another president when Uhuru retires in 2022. He added that a good number of citizens have the DP in mind.
However, the vocal lawmaker alleged that Ruto's suitability has to be tested through a free and fair nomination process conducted by the Jubilee Party.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta is looking for legacy. God will give us another leader in 2022. Many people believe it will be the Deputy President, but those of us in Jubilee believe it is not the Deputy president at all costs," observed Murkomen.
He assured the congregants that the 2022 presidential contest would be conducted in a peaceful environment, where citizens will judge leaders based on their leadership skills and development record.
He further said, "It will be based on what Kenyans will have decided on the ballot and when the Deputy President will present his CV to the people of Kenya, and all the others who will present their CVs will present in a good environment."
Murkomen asserted that political protests that have been seen in the past election will not reoccur and people will go back to their businesses as usual after the elections in 2022.
