Secretary of Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi, has refuted claims that Deputy President William Ruto is opposing the referendum.
Responding to an earlier tweet by KTN television show host Tony Gachoka that whereas President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga want Kenyans to decide on the referendum, Ruto wants the MPs to decide, Itumbi rubbished the claims.
''AA, @DonaldBKipkorir & I disagree with you on implementation Uhuru & Raila want the people to decide in a Referendum. No one can bribe 19m voters. But you & RUTO want 230 MPs to decide when everyone knows a Cash dispensing machine is in Parliament toilets dispensing maximum 10K/MP!,'' said Tony Gachoka.
Itumbi, who is a very close supporter of DP Ruto rubbished off Gachoka's claims.
''Who has opposed a referendum? Let the Referendum come if it must. I personally, suggest it be held together with General elections as a 7th ballot. No-one is opposing a referendum,'' noted Dennis Itumbi.
This comes even after President Uhuru and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team urged Kenyans urged to read the report on their own and make their own recommendations.
President Uhuru asked politicians not to interpret the BBI to Kenyans but to let them read and understand it for themselves. Kenyans will decide whether the country will have a referendum before the next general elections of not.
