Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has revealed plans to introduce an amendment to Marriage Act in a bid to compel men to recognise children born out of wedlock
In the amendment, Odhiambo said on Thursday, men should also recognise their children born in marriage, adding that they must do so to avoid confusions when they are dead.
According to her, cases of controversy on child ownership during death have increased, arguing that they have often caught mourners off guard.
"I am bringing an amendment to the Marriage Act compelling all men to publicly declare their children in and out of wedlock while alive and in case they don't, the mothers should declare. Mourning with shocks and counter shocks can cause another funeral," she said.
Odhiambo's sentiments come few hours after the controversy surrounding the burial of Kibra MP Ken Okoth escalated, with a city MCA claiming that she has his son.
Governor Mike Sonko confirmed that Okoth had a relationship with Anita Muthoni, adding that he even requested him to nominate her to the assembly.
“The two love birds did not hide the fact that they shared a son. Unfortunately, today, Anita was stopped at the Lee Funeral Home as she took their son to pay last respect to his father. Who does that?” he posed.
Senior Principal Magistrate Grace Mmasi issued the injunction pending the hearing and determination of the application over the Saturday's planned burial of Okoth.
“It is hereby ordered that in the interim a temporary injunction be and is hereby issued restraining the 1st (Angelina Okoth) and 2nd (Monica Okoth) defendants, either by themselves, their servants or agents, from conducting the burial, interment, cremation and or in any matter whatsoever dispose of the body…” the order read in part.
