A Kirinyaga County Executive Committee (CEC) member has resigned following a warning from the County's governor Anne Waiguru.

Lynette Wanjiru Njeru who was working in the docket of Gender and Youth was recruited in September last year. 

Her recruitment came after the initial holder of the position Judy Kinyua was laid off. 

Kinyua is reported to have sought legal intervention after her sacking.

“It is with recognition of the magnitude of responsibility bestowed upon me that I tender my resignation from the office of County Executive Committee member for Gender and Youth effective January 15, 2020,” part of Njeru's resignation letter read as quoted by Citizen Digital.

Njeru nonetheless did not link her resignation to a warning letter from the county's governor but instead expressed gratitude towards Governor Waiguru.

“I am eternally grateful to H.E Anne Waiguru for the appointment and supporting the execution of my mandate," she added.

Governor Waiguru had on December 9 wrote to Njeru's office raising concern over underperformance of the docket that she worked in.

“Given that you are County Executive Committee member responsible for effective and efficient service delivery of your department, I hold you accountable for the overall underperformance,”  Waiguru's letter read.

In the letter from the governor, Njeru had been warned of disciplinary action for the underperformance.
