The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that a truck transporting unconsumed sugar from Uganda into Kenya was confiscated on Monday along Kerita Road in West Pokot.
In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, DCI noted that the truck was confiscated by Multi-Agency Team led by Detectives from the DCI.
''OVER 500 Bags (@50kgs each) of Uncustomed Ugandan Sugar were yesterday confiscated and a truck transporting the same seized when a Multi-Agency Team led by @DCI_Kenya Detectives on patrol along Kerita Road in West Pokot intercepted a suspicious truck Reg No. UBA 094H,'' said the DCI.
The driver of the truck was arrested after the detectives discovered what he was transporting contraband sugar. The detectives contacted the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) agents to contact more investigations on the truck and the unconsumed sugar being transported into the country.
The government has on various occasions cautioned people from bringing into the country contraband goods.
Such goods usual escape from being taxed making the government incur huge loses from lack of paying their taxes. The unconsumed sugar from Uganda was being brought into the country through dubious ways.
The government has followed track of such dealings arresting those concerned. However, many have gone arrested since they are never recognized.
This comes a day after several lorries were impounded in Eldoret transporting fake Lato milk from Uganda. More so, many have been against the government's move of importing certain things from Uganda into the country. Such hinder locals trade for their local goods.
