Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been arrested.
Sonko was arrested in Voi aboard a Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train following an order from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
The governor and other county officials are accused of being involved in the loss of Sh357 million.
Reports indicate that plans are in place to have the governor ferried from Voi to Nairobi.
Earlier today while addressing the media, Haji said his office has gathered enough evidence needed to prosecute the governor and other county employees over the alleged graft.
The DPP further noted that Sonko and other accused persons will face charges of conspiracy to commit economic crimes, willful failure to comply with the law, and conflict of interest.
"Investigation into these crimes have been challenging because of the repeated attempt by the accused to obstruct the cause of the investigations by deploying investigation tactics in addition to using goons to threaten law enforcement officials carrying out their constitutional mandate,” Haji said.
Sonko and the other accused have been under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over the disappearance of the said millions.
