Retired President Daniel Moi opted to follow Mashujaa Day celebration live on his television at Ksbarnet Gardens in Nairobi, reports the Nation.
Last week, Mzee Moi was rushed to Nairobi Hospital for treatment but the family did not immediately disclose details about his health. He has since been released.
Press Secretary Lee Njiru said the nonagenarian celebrated heroes are his home with a section of friends and family members in a low key function.
“Mzee Moi celebrated Mashujaa Day at his Kabarnet Gardens home in Nairobi with close family members and friends," he said in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, the former Head of State saluted people who have dedicated their time to uplift the name of the country in the exploits around the world.
"He saluted heroes and heroines whose hard work, courage, patriotism and perseverance have had a great impact on the socio-economic wellbeing of the country and urged Kenyans to emulate them and contribute towards the prosperity of the country," Mr Njiru said in a statement.
Moi ruled Kenya for 24 years and was at some point accused of dictatorship. He retired in 2002, handing over to Mwai Kibaki, who retired in 2013.
The former President, despite his old age, still plays important role in Kenyan politics, with President Uhuru Kenyatta often consulting him.
His youngest son Gideon Moi, the Baringo senator, has expressed interest in Presidency, arguing that he's best placed to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
