Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has blasted the Standard newspaper over a report indicating a luxury vehicle belonging to party leader Raila Odinga has been impounded by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The paper on its Wednesday publication said Raila's Range Rover registration KCS 002D was among 18 top-of-the-range vehicles that detectives have seized over fraudulent registration allegations.
Quoting part of the article, Sifuna accused journalists Geoffrey Mosoku and Cyrus Ombati of doublespeak and termed the story as rubbish.
"You say it's not clear it's his car... Then in the very next paragraph, you call it his car!! This is absolute rubbish "journalism" by Geoffrey Mosoku and Cyrus Ombati of @StandardKenya. Headline hunting at its best. Rubbish (Takataka)," tweeted the ODM SG.
The tweet is in reference to a section of the story that says; "It is not clear if the car is owned by Raila or is among a pool of cars that his supporters often provide for his use during campaigns with detectives expected to unravel the riddle."
Other than Raila’s car, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa’s Range Rover that was flagged by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in 2016 is also being sought.
The story indicated that detectives were also out to impound luxury cars belonging to prominent politicians among them sitting Members of Parliament.
Some of those mentioned by in the Standard Digital report are MPs Maoka Maore (Igembe North), Mathias Robi (Kuria West) and Embakasi East's George Theuri.
Others are former MPs James Gesami and Oyugi Magwanga.
