Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has insisted that church fundraisers should not be politicized noting that politicians should be allowed to preside over such events.
According to Maangi, politicians should not be barred from giving their donations to the church to improve infrastructure.
"It is not a crime when we politicians attend church services and give financial support to the church. Those playing politics at fundraiser events attended by politicians are the enemies to the church," he said.
The Deputy Governor further argued that he will not stop presiding over fund drives in churches across Kisii county when he is requested to do so.
"I will not mind what critics and my political competitors will say about me when I attend fundraising events in our churches. As a leader, I encourage other leaders to ignore petty politics involving fund drives and give their support to the church towards improving infrastructure," he added.
Maangi was speaking on Saturday when he attended a church service at Light Bearers SDA Church, Riakeana, Kiamokama Ward, Nyaribari Masaba Constituency where he also presided over a fund drive aimed at improving infrastructure at the church.
The DG was accompanied by Ezekiel Machogu, MP for Nyaribari Masaba and several MCAs.
