The death toll in the Monday road accident in Naivasha along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway has risen to six from the initially reported five.
This is after one person who was receiving treatment at Naivasha Sub-County hospital succumbed to the injuries sustained during the road accident.
A relative, Martin Ndung’u, said the six who were in a personal car were travelling from Njoro to Naivasha to attend a burial of a family member scheduled for Tuesday.
Ndung’u said the family will transfer the bodies of the six to Nakuru after post mortem examinations are done.
“This is a very painful moment for the family but we are praying for strength as we prepare to lay them to rest,” said Ndung’u as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.
During the Monday evening road accident, the saloon car was involved in an accident near Marula River on the Naivasha–Nakuru Highway.
The driver was heading to Nairobi from Nakuru and tried to overtake other vehicles leading to a head-on collision with an oncoming truck.
Naivasha Deputy OCPD John Kwasa who confirmed the accident said the personal car was squeezed between two trucks killing the five on the spot.
