Speaking on Monday, he faulted the President Uhuru Kenyatta leadership for taking too much debt, to an extent that its now taking others to pay the initial ones.

He said no economy has ever succeeded when taking a lot of debts that are not properly used, adding that Kenya cannot expect to survive the looming repercussions.

"We are borrowing to pay debts. The sensible thing to do as government is be realistic and say that we are setting ourselves up for failure. No economy has moved in this direction succeeded," he said.

The university professor spoke on NTV's AM Live show on Monday morning.

Manyora added that the current situation where the government appears to be messing with economics will lead to a collapse of operations in the country.

"I agree that you can mess with politics but you cannot mess with economics. If you mess with economics everything will collapse," he added.

The government has been on the spit lately, over its growing appetite for loans, the bulk of it coming from the Chinese government.

The same has also been questioned by Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.
