Kenyan football star McDonald Mariga has clinched the Jubilee party ticket for the Kibra parliamentary seat.
This was after the party's National Elections Board (NEB) on Monday approved his name, giving him the green light to fly the Jubilee flag in the much anticipated contest.
In a statement, the board termed Mariga as a man who has had a cordial relationship with Kibra residents, also lauding his character and credentials.
“I am pleased to announce that our vetting process has yielded a candidate of impeccable character and credentials, a person who has had an enduring connection with the people of Kibra,” the statement read as quoted by Standard.
Mariga is expected to face off with a candidate from the dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, which is seeking to retain the seat after the death of Ken Okoth.
The party is set to hold its primaries on September 7, as is seeks to pick one candidate from the 11 who have declared interest.
Also in the race is Eliud Owalo of the Amani National Congress (ANC).
