Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has faulted calls for the introduction of a three-tire government in the looming constitutional changes.
The same was proposed by Coast governors in their resolution read during the Coast edition of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) forum in Mombasa City on Saturday.
But the lawmaker says that this is a plot to offer a soft landing for governors once they retire, finding it unfortunate that Kenyans in attendance appeared in agreement.
"Its a pity that the jobless youth were cheering and clapping when the second term governors who have fleeced county resources are proposing for regional governments so that they can get a soft landing," she posted on Facebook, Saturday.
She stressed on the need for county bosses to leave office when they complete their second and last terms and cease looking for excuses to prolong their stay in power.
According to Omanga, there is also a need for young Kenyans to also be given a chance to take up leadership slots currently being held by the older generation.
"When will these leaders say its time to retire and give space for our youths to take up leadership?" she posed.
The forum was presided over by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
