A driver and a loader were arraigned before a court on Tuesday to face charges of stealing six bottles of Jameson whisky.
Daniel Mbugua and Cliff Obonyo were accused of allegedly stealing a carton containing the six bottles worth Sh15,000 from a firm in Embakasi, Nairobi.
According to reports that the two accused persons committed the crime on December 17, 2019, while working for Mitchel Cott Company limited.
On the material date, the court heard that other loaders saw the two accused persons steal the carton that had the one-litre bottles of Jameson.
“The two were allegedly seen by other loaders hiding the carton under the driver’s seat of their pick-up vehicle,” the court heard.
Senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji was told that the accused were arrested and held at Embakasi Police station following the incident.
The two accused persons, however, denied the charges before the court and filed an application to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.
Magistrate Kithinji granted their application and ordered that they are released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 each.
The case will be heard on April 28, 2020.
