For the past five months, a team of lesders under the stewardship of Governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae, have been charging the ground for prospective Matiang'i presidency.

At Nyanturago on Friday, the leaders intensified calls to have Matiang'i running for Presidency with Raila Odinga's endorsement as Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati set the pace.

"I know you all love Matiang'i. He has done well. There only thing that we shall seek is Baba's blessings. When Baba will crown him, everything shall be well," he said.

While addressing the crowd, Raila who lauded the Abagusii community, said he was aware of calls to have Matiang'i succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, to distinguish his team from that of DP William Ruto, Raila said, politicians should stop early campaigns and focus on development first.

"Matiang'i is my son, I know his quest very well. However, just relax, don't escalate this. There will be no difference between us and our competitors," he said.

"Stop giving him pressure to run. We agreed with Uhuru to extinguish fireworks then fight corruption. When the right time comes, we shall sort these other issues. Let Matiang'i first work," added Mr Odinga, insisting the calls could spoil for Matiang'i.

Dr Matiang'i, who read President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech at the venue in tribute for Dr Hezron Manduku, steered clearly off politics, only insisting that he's ready to deliver.

The powerful minister said: "I know you want me to declare something but not today. I am closely working with all leaders to ensure perfect service delivery in Nyamira and Kisii Counties."
